So a quick update on my racing season!  The mountain bike racing season got off to a great start with my recent performance at the Bacon Buffet of Pain and Suffering, the second mtb race of the Alberta Cup XC series.  The field included some heavy competition including the leader of the first Alberta Cup XC race.  The course was very fast with many steep power climbs and a "Houffalize" climb near the finish.  After the second lap I took the lead, however the gap was only 20 seconds between me and second place.  Not only was I able to keep consistent lap times throughout the race without bonking on my last lap, but I also increased the lead on my last lap to ride to my first victory in the elite category!  I'm still so excited about the victory and will use this confidence for my upcoming Canada Cup XC races in Edmonton and Canmore!  I will keep you updated on the rest of the season and will be tearing it up this coming Sunday in the 2009 Salty Dog Enduro!  Stay tuned!  Thanks to Brad Chisholm for the awesome race pictures - you can view more of his great work at bradchisholmphoto.com!

Fantastic racing Manuel!
That was great self-control to keep the pace down at the beginning. Clearly a strategy that works!

It's also great seeing the 'little guy' at the top of the podium!

It's great to see the BPR colours on the top step!
