I made a last minute trip down to My Seymour on Sunday, AWSOME race.

Me and my dad drove down the morning of the race, leaving at 3:30am I attempted to sleep while he navigated... When we arrived it was pouring rain and I was looking forward to nothing less than an EPIC adventure.

I brought my tax trainer for a warm-up but because it was raining I had to cover the electrical parts with a cardboard box during my warm up... HEHE... After 30min of almost destroying my trainer I headed to the Start line... I raced Cat 3 and we were thrown in with the Cat 1/2s so I Knew it was going to be an interesting race!

At the gun, the three H&R guys drove the pace at the front and I sat right behind them hesitant of being to aggressive with minimal racing so far this year... My heart rate was up around 180-185 in the first 10min but my breathing was only around 40 so I was comfortable but when one of the H&R guys attacked I just sat on for the counter accelerations... After chasing for a while, there was only 3 other guys in my group and I felt REALLY good. MY heart rate was now around 190-200 and my breathing was closer to 50, cadence stayed around 90rpm for the duration. The remaining H&R guy attacked and I countered leaving the other two behind. I couldn't go past the guy and we worked together knowing that his friend wasn't going to be caught. With 2km to go I did most of the work and "conservatively" tried to ride him off my wheel and out run the Red Truck Racing guy that was chasing us. When I made an acceleration he countered and I couldn't respond and my recovery took too long and I was passed by the RTR guy. I would finish 4th in the 1/2/3 group and 5th overall, winning the Cat 3 race.

Well...I knew you had it in you. Congratulations.

Looks like the resp control is good, but perhaps could use some more volume for next year to allow for lower respiration rate.

Being able to "play" with the big boys must have been very exciting, and I presume you realize that a 3:30am wake-up call is probably not the best way to approach your best possible race effort. Your Dad deserves a medal...or at least a great big hug. Be sure to show your appreciation. There are not many parents that would have made that sacrifice for their child.

I still think you should be racing the Apple, just to wrap up your triathlon career for the time-being. I know you will be back one day...even if it is just to give Lance a race in 15 years when he turns 55!

4th overall it looks...don;t be so modest. Some high accolades form the race director as well.
