Another note about walking in shoes. It makes you think about your every day footwear, not simply your running shoes.

I've been rehabing from a decade of plantar fascia like pain, achilles pain, and ITB pain, I can finally walk barefoot in the house, finally walk barefoot on a beach, and now use barefoot shoes in the park. At different stages in this process I have found an orthotic helpful to give my foot a little rest while challenging the foot to get stronger with weight bearing etc. I now don't need orthotics. What I think is really interesting is that now the shoes I used to wear with solid soles hurt my feet more than anything. So the leather shoes that I wore with an additional arch orthotic make my feet hurt within about 5 minutes. I'm finding it tough to find shoes that have a flexible sole.

Have you tried Sanuk's?
I spend a lot of time in these. It's like walking with just a yoga mat under your feet.

Props to Sanuk too - I work in these all summer - standing up all day on a concrete floor - if you have the foot strength to handle it they are the bomb!!
