Is anyone interested in doing a long easy road ride on friday (5hrs ish)!!! I am thinking of leaving from Kelowna in the am and riding around the Lake but I am flexible on ideas if anyone else wants to join? Maybe ride in Vernon or even Penticton? Sat I am planning to do another longer ride! On sunday I will try and borrow a Mtn bike and ride a new mtb bike course in Summerland (see details from my friends Aart and Kerry below) it would be great to get some of the Balance point crew out for this event:

Jen

note from Aart and Kerry:

"Hi everyone!!

We are having a fun pre-ride of the Summerland "Test of Humanity" enduro course on Sunday, October 24th!!  We leave for the slow, easy pre-ride lap at 11:00 and then the plan is to do 3 fast laps at noon.  This will give us a sense of what it'll be like on race day for the Test of Humanity Enduro, September 25, 2011!!  This is for ALL abilities on a mountain bike!  The course is fun and flowy, but not technical, so if you have a mountain bike, you can do it.

Does everyone know what the Test of Humanity Enduro is??  Nic and Shei Seaton have spearheaded an event for fall of 2011.  They have done some humanitarian work in Ethiopia, and have been in close contact with "Canadian Humanitarian".  Over the past months, they have laid out a course for a mountain bike endurance event, called the Test of Humanity.  A good group of people have met most Tuesdays to work on the course and eat and drink beer after.  The hope is to get as many people from all abilities to race/ride.  All of the profits will go to Canadian Humanitarian, and they are hoping to do a sponsorship fundraiser along with this.  More information will be coming in the next months from Nic and Shei, with a great website.  Most of all- it'll be fun and at the same time, supporting an amazing cause!  It would be great to see some of the race teams involved, as well as families and friends who love to ride and have fun.

If you're coming this Sunday- same spot as the trail day we had with Terry.  Head up towards the landfill in Summerland (past Giant's Head School).  Turn right on Morrow Ave, go up the hill to the first "T" intersection, turn right and park at the end of the street. (just around the corner from the Summerland XC running race)

Hey Simon, Maybe we will trick Chris into diving into the cave of pain!!! The plan is to meet at the North End Bean scene at 9:30am (I think it's now called the Cannery Coffee house or something) located at 109 - 1289 Ellis st (at Ellis and Cawston). THis is NOT the Downtown Bean Scene on Bernard!

Coach A checking in from Whistler...after a night ride and a follow up technical session on a free ride bike. Climbs like a pig, but goes downhill like a stallion.

Anyway, I am looking forward to hearing how the "training" session really went...and reminding everyone that a little pain is a good thing to add into any program, as long as there is some realistic recovery, backed up with some objective step tests to ensure appropriate repairs are made to the structures to allow for continued improvements.

See you all next Thursday!!!

Ugly was a bit of an understatement - at least from my angle.

When we started out (15 mins late due to Laterhorn having a manicure) it had just started to rain. I had been running beforehand and the temp was pretty good - but with the rain came a northerly wind and the temp really took a nose dive. By Winfield my feet were totally wet - I couldn`t feel my hands - and already eaten about 1/2 pound of road grit trying to suck wheel to keep up with these guys.

The climb up predator warmed me up!!! I had to back off to control my resp rate and watched the team slowly pull away from me - I was starting to catch Sushy from his earlier exploits - but then even he could stay away!!!

The descent from Predator finished me off - I was shivering pretty bad by then and the legs were starting to lock up - Thanks to Matterforn for staying with me to pull me along the highway section!!

Limped back to Kelowna - a drowned, frozen rat. Definitely top 5 suffer-fests for me - I don't know if I saw any caves - couldn't really see much by the end.

Thanks Team for a great ride - and being patient with the tri-geek coach.

Well, when you can't see straight, that means you might be in the cave.  Apparently a heart rate monitor-less Quail means trouble.  Ooops.

Great ride yesterday!  The weather was brutal from start to finish.  Quail had to keep the pace high to 'stay warm' (I am pretty sure I heard Peter cursing his name a few times!), and I had to distract myself from the crappy weather by trying to shatter myself - thanks for playing along everyone!  I was trying to keep my respiration smooth at all kinds of different intensities.  I think it went well.  However, it took 2 large americano's, a giant cookie, and a piece of cake to coax me out of the cave!

It was an awesome weekend of riding!!!!

Friday: I enjoyed a very controlled 4 hr ride (BP -25) with the Horn and the Hammer (my friend Kerry). I felt great the entire ride and worked on my cadence and tried to focus on correcting my breathing technique.

Saturday 4hrs: "The ugly ride around predator!". I felt great for the first hour and was able to keep my hr and breathing somewhat controlled considering the "surges" from the shivering Quail. At the 1 hour mark, I started to feel a little poorly (stuggled to stay alert during the predator climb). I still managed to climb reasonably well but noticed that my respiration was not under control. By the top of the climb (1/2 hr later) I started to feel great and then the fun began!!! I embraced a few "surges" on the highway and had some fun climbing the hills in Oyama! My legs felt great and I had a chance to do a little "speed work". Thanks everyone for an awesome ride!!!!!! So much fun!!!!!!!

Sunday 3 hrs Mtn bike ride: I rode from Peachland to Summerland on some awesome trails. In Summerland I joined a few other riders from Penticton to ride some laps of the proposed "Test of Humanity course" in Summerland. The course is a blast: fast and furious riding with lots of possibilities of a high speed crash if one was not careful!!! The terrain is not very technical but adding speed will make for a good test of one's tolerance for speed and reaction time! The course is hilly but also consists of several false flat sections where I often find it difficult to keep it rolling at race pace!

I am now looking forward to a few days of rest!!! It will be interesting to see if I have recovered by thurs!
