It's December 8th, and the goodies are pouring into the staff room, clients are dropping off gift baskets, you've been invited for 'drinks' and parties three nights of the week. We train/exercise/adventure a whole lot, but it is no match for your secretary's peanut brittle.

Let's come up with some ideas to enjoy the festivities, but not have to battle the bulge in January. I'll get the list started, then add on to it if you have some ideas for us.

1. Pack your work lunch everyday, including extra healthy snacks, so that you are not starving as you pass the plate of goodies. Consider leaving some canned fruit, yogurt, tins of tuna and crackers, or a bag of mini carrots in the fridge at work, so there is 'back-up'.

2. Eat a light meal before a party, so that you can enjoy a treat without grazing all night.

3. Choose champagne or a soda wine spritzer over beer or mixed drinks. If you are going out alot, consider having soda only for some of those parties.

4. Keep your house free of the treats, knowing that it will be everywhere you go for the next month.

WOW, I'm a party pooper!! The reason is that I can already picture myself struggling to get into my jeans in January, and taking months to get closer to race weight. I'll try to remind myself, that I don't need to finish the footlong Tobblerone by New Year's! In fact this year, Santa will be requested to downsize any goodies.

Thanks for reminding me that I DON'T have to eat those treats my clients drop of DAILY at the store.
It's hard enough to lose the last pesky pounds getting ready for race season without ALL the added calories out there over the holiday season!

I can stay focused on the suggestions you've left AND I am going to CHOOSE to use these tips in attemp to finish January off without the dreadful 'squeeze'

Somethings that I am doing:

Not drinking my calories. Yes, I like a glass of wine, but I will pass on the eggnog this year. Cry
I will not eat ANY treats dropped of at the store that are NOT home made.
AND finally, I will find a way to burn a few extra calories daily.  Parking further away from work, moving on my break rather than sitting, shoveling the driveway, nightime snowshoeing/skiing.

Thanks Ginny for reminding me that I am not the ONLY one who is restricting over the holidays.
