Hey Crew

Here's my pre-race blah blah blog.

The couple of weeks leading up to a big race always lets me express my hypochondriac self. So far I've had a debilitating disc rupture in the lumbar region (which lasted 14 hours...he he), aspiration of a Snickers bar which led to pneumonia (which lasted 7 days), and chronic fatigue syndrome or anemia, I haven't decided which. This seems to bring out my bi-polar disorder and ADHD symptoms of course.

The key element to my pre-race preparation has been to change everything in the last 2 weeks. I've been riding a cross bike, my mountain bike, and a road bike for a few months.(yes, I know I'm spoilt rotten). I only took my tri bike on the road when the gravel was mostly cleaned up. On the first climb I realized that I could not stand without hitting the bars with my knees....not stand at all. This is a little problematic since I'm doing the IM with the most climbing other than Lanzarote, and 13% section on a switchback. So here I am with new stem, new seat, new shoes, on a bike I've ridden three times outdoors. Thank goodness Chris was able to help me sort it all out at the last minute. For the run, I have no idea what to wear on my feet as I've been wearing NB Minimus in the trails, and haven't touched the road. Hmmm...I'll find something...NEW.

Otherwise, my mental preparation is superb. I waver between telling myself I am ready to rock this thing with a PB on the hardest course I've done, with dreaming of a near drowning in the freezing reservoir to avoid the pain of the hilliest marathon known to man. So all good...all good. Pretty much normal preparation for me.

Thankfully I'll be able to share my first Palm Bay?!? with the Captain to celebrate his complete domination of the St. George IM. Just don't drive the RV in that condition!!

Wow Ginny, that is a whole lot of ups and downs!  I hope it keeps going in the up direction from here on in and that everything else goes smoothly for you.  Good luck and hope you have the race of your life!

I noticed the post from Snickers garnered no sympathy for her ardent supporter/husband who rides this Pre-race rollercoasted of emotions with a mixture of awe and dread. The one thing that is constant is that Gin ALWAYS shows up on race day with a smile on her face and a skip in her step.

Do I think Snickers is gonna ROCK this thing?
No doubt in my mind.

Super G ALWAYS rocks IM's and her pre race rituals are Legendary ...
I myself have been "Aspirating" Palm Bays in order to gain the illusive "EDGE".
I also made a trip to the Garvin's to drop off "supplies" at the BPR trailer.
For those who haven't seen it ... Brock has done an amazing job with this unit. We are lucky to have his support. Tx Brock !!!
Unfortunately the trailer is now full of Palm Bays and there is no room for anyone’s bikes  Kiss
The crew will have to get their bikes to Utah some other way ...  Grin

I'm looking forward to seeing everybody down in St George in the next few days ...

Thanks for the support everyone!! I'm feeling fit and excited about the challenge ahead. Race wheels are not quite here yet, but hey...that would just be icing on the cake.

Good luck to the crew racing Maple Ridge on the same weekend. Can't wait to hear about it.

To be too confident (I found for myself anyway) is never too good, so you'll be ALL fine and happy of your accomplishments by the end of the race, Palm Bay or not!  When are you leaving?  I can offer you a free Fascial Stretch Therapy session before you go (got to be at least 3 days before you race).  Hey everyone, I am now a certified FST level 1!  Anyone else interested in a free session - need bodies to practice my new skills!??

Majo...you can count me in if you have time on Sunday after you have stretched Giiny into racing form. Mine should be short, I only need to survive the role of support crew next weekend.

Special thanks to Myra who has offered up a set of race wheels in case Gin's don't arrive in time.

I'd totally be in for a tester Majo!!
I've messed up my knee so if it worked out and you could look at that'd be great.
Morning or evening works for me.

Hey crew!
Things are fantastic here. The venue is stunning, and spirits are high. On Tuesday morning we got out to resevoir and BPR headquarters was set up with half a dozen Cannondales hanging from the tent, and Brock wrenching next to his sweeet trailer. Becky, Simon, Cindy, and Luke head out on the bike course, and Sean and I braved the water, with Andrew and Juliann ready for CPR if required. I had a wetsuit hoody on, and counted to 40till my face froze, and it was perfect from there. Fear número UNO checked off.
Later tues we did a short run on the course up Red Hills. It,s a steady climb along the red rock bluff up to a stunning view over the city and beyond to the flat topped hills. I felt bullet proof. It's not often I am willing to say something so confident pre-race, but Im so stoked to healthy and finally ready to run. yippee!
Today we head out to drive part of the bike course, and ride part of the 30 mile climbing section. It was possibly the most stunning bike route I've been on. Sean and I rode the steep climb out of Gunlock, then up the switchback. Luke was at the top on Veyo eating pumpkin pie at the infamous pie shop. Fear nemero dos, the climb, checked off... But possibly replaced with a
healthy respect for the wind... Easily as windy as Kona. not what I expected.
Well other than that, we are enjoying the food and the rest a bit too much, and Andrew has played 17rounds of mini golf with Maddy, and she swam 25 m of freestyle in 5 yr old style . Good times...
Next time I write it will be the gory details of day.
