Mr. T's Triathlon

Well here is my race report for Mr T’s triathlon that I did on Sunday. I did this event last year when I didn’t know how to swim properly so I was keen on getting my revenge and improving my time from last year.
Swim- Distance : 450 M Time : 10 :10 min
All the competitors in my age group gathered for the athlete meeting at 8 :45 while the race course director quickly ran over the basics of the course. The water temperature was 16 degrees Celsius and there was a pretty big wind that caused some big waves from one side. Nevertheless we all lined up at the start line and when the buzzer sounded we were off. I started out really fast and was drafting off the lead guy until the first marker. After the first marker I started to find my groove except for the fact that I was forced to breathe every second stroke instead of every third because of the waves on one side. The waves also made it a bit more challenging for sighting the next marker. I was extremely pleased with my time as it was 7 minutes better than my time last year and I was the third person out of the water.
T1, Bike & T2- Distance : 10km Time with T1 & T2 : 20 :35 min
I got out of the water in third but was passed before we got to the timing mat so ended up fourth going into T1. I struggled to get my wetsuit off for a breif ten seconds and then I was out of the transition in third place. I got off to a good speed on the bike and was feeling very comfortable on the uphills and didn’t feel any pain from the long ride the day before. I caught one of the guys in my division and still had one more to catch going into the run portion. My bike and transition time was 5 minutes faster than last year.
Run- Distance : 4km Time : 20 :17 min
Over the past couple months this has definitely been the area I have been training for the least, and boy did it show. I got off the bike and my legs felt like jelly I was gasping for air until finally I started to calm down and feel a little better. My goal for the next couple months is not only to run more but also to add in some longer brick sessions to get the legs accustomed to the feeling. Even though it was a hard run I managed to knock off 2 minutes off my last years time.
Although my run felt rather sluggish I managed to finish the race in second place. But more importantly I beat my old time by 14 minutes! So my focus for the summer is to get more comfortable to open water swimming, do some longer brick sessions, and continue to have fun training. Thank –you Simon for being there to cheer everyone on it is always great to hear someone cheering for you.

Hey Quinn,
Congrats on a wicked race man!! To knock 14 minutes off is a great achievement - especially at that distance!
Sounds like you know where your weaknesses are - constant focus on improving your swimming and running will ensure you continue to slay it out there.
Look forward to reading about your next race

The ONLY thing you need now is more time with focused training. The time you pit in now will pay HUGE dividends in the future. Start to get out now the weather is nicer for some long steady rides on your own, and make plans to ride to swim practices as soon as school is out! Your results are impressive given the relative amount of time you have been training. Time to adhere to the plans Chris has laid out for you and rise up to meet the expectations we have set for you.
