Here I am writing about my last race for the 2011 season. Last weekend my family and I spent the weekend in the beautiful city of Victoria. I decided to register for the 8k race which is a awesome run right along the ocean for 4k out and back course. I arrived on Friday evening at the hotel and went straight to bed as I was fairly tired from the long car ride. The next morning we walked around town exploring but I tried to stay off my feet as much as possible and not give my little cousins too many piggy back rides. The morning of the race I did about a 2k warm up just to get the blood pumping. After warm up I was ready to rock and found myself at the start line amongst 2500 other participants. Once the race started I got off to a good pace at about a 4:00 km pace. I passed a lot of people in the first few kilometres. At about 3km I saw the pros coming back with Kyle Jones leading the pack. I came around the turnaround and headed back into town. In the last km I was feeling great and maintaining a high cadence when out of nowhere a 10 year old zoomed by me,,leaving me in his dust (what do parents feed their kids these days?) Anyways I put that behind me a continued to the finsh. My final time was 34:24 and I maintained a average pace of 4:18/km.

Thanks for reading Smiley

Hey Quinn,
Thanks for posting a great report!
Some questions for you;
1) What did your warm-up consist of? Just some straight running?
2) What was your breathing control like in that first 4km?
3) Why could the 10yr old blow by you like that? Was his cadence faster? Strides longer?
4) HR data - max, average?

Just some questions to get you thinking a bit?
Chris
