Ride 2 Survive

Though this does not really qualify as a true Race Report, I thought it was worth sharing...there were at least a few BPR members in this crazy group, who were out on the road for a LONG DAY all for a good cause. The following note was sent to me by Eric Jewel, one of our friends and budding Ironman athletes...
"We had the Ride2Survive event on Saturday and it was a huge success. 16hrs of ride time due to some very strong headwinds for the majority of the ride. I was personally able to raise $7000 which should be able to buy a couple of infusion pumps used during the chemotherapy treatment process. There were 24 riders from Kelowna including myself and we raised over $50,000 which surpassed our goal. There was 120 riders in total and I think once all the numbers are totaled we will have raised over $500,000 which is pretty damn good for a one day event.
I would highly recommend that ride to anyone. There was a very large range of cycling ability in the group and you don’t have to be super fit to accomplish the ride. Everyone helps out everyone and everyone finishes, its not a race.
The volunteers were amazing. It was a full on smorgasbord of food at each stop (hot soups, casseroles, meat, cheese……and much more) and the volunteers would not let you do anything. They grabbed your bike and filled your bottles for you and brought you anything you asked for. I think you could actually gain weight by the end of the ride there was so much food. Truly amazing
It was truly an epic day that I am very proud to be a part of.
By the way, there is nothing like some good base building with 16hrs of riding at balance point -35 and 12,000 calories."

Well done Eric! That's a heck of a lot of money to raise. I love the fact that you are so fit, 400km just seems like a gentle catered workout for you!
Two other BPR athletes completed the Ride to Conquer Cancer, 2 longs days in the saddle in Washington. Trish Marshall and Gitte Jorgensen both had powerful, and emotional stories to tell. I sure hope they post a report here when they are ready.
