After a couple weekends of road racing, and some disappointing results and a couple more satisfying results in the top ten, i headed to Devon Alberta last weekend for the last Alberta Mtn Bike Cup before the provincials end of August.
The course suited me well with short steep climbs and a couple fast descends and beautiful warm weather.
With only 8 elite riders at the start, i managed to get a great position right off the start, second behind series leader (former dutch national team member) Tim Heemskerk. I rode the first lap with Tim in my sight and then settled into my own pace, riding 5 laps by myself, finishing second 4min. behind Tim.
I felt great throughout the 6 laps 45km race, making sure to refuel for every lap. Definitely motivating to train hard for provincials end of August for a top result.

Another great result, but disappointing that there were not more elite riders to compete with.

Take a few moments to think about the limiting factors again. Was it the coordination on the climbs, the respiratory system, or other factors. Then have a look at your schedule to see when you will be back in town for testing. We have set some time aside with the rest of the HP Team the first week-end of August in Grand Forks, and again  the week of August 13-15 in Vernon/Kelowna. Both would be great opportunities for assessment and fun training. Hope you can make it.

I'm glad you are doing a better job with re-fueling. In the past, you seem to have been very casual about that. I'm sure you will perform better with the right fluid/fuel combo.

Nothing wrong with 2nd place next to a former national champ!
