BPR - divided and conquered.
The Desert Half Ironman created two distinct groups within the BPR team of athletes, and our Vernon friends. One group stepped up to perform well, and put forward solid performances. The other unfortunate group was sidelined with injuries and disappointing results.
Bright moments included:
Ally's quote, "I nailed my nutrition, and have felt great all day!".
Juliann's stellar ride and run.
Aaron Hoffmann's 5:03 clocking, and his first test of racing without a heart rate monitor.
Nadia's completion of her first triathlon ever, fighting off adversity on the run.
Tim and Karen completing their first Half Ironman with their sole endeavor previously being the Mr. T. Sprint triathlon.
Mike Champigny laying down the 5th fastest bike time of the day.
Andrew coming out of the water with the chase pack in 7th overall.
Ginny's second place finish in the 35-39 age category.
Chris Willett riding well after adapting his Cyclecorss bike with aero bars and Durace deep dish wheels.
Kathleen Wood, running well to a second place finish in her age group.
On the more tragic side of things:
Sean McEvoy discovering he really has not recovered form Ironman CDA.
Mike recognizing his calf has not fully healed.
Andrew choosing to not wear socks for his "training run".
Ginny chatting herself into a debilitating diaphragm cramp, which reduced her to a walk.
Eric Jewel making it nearly 15km before suffering a similar bout of intercostals muscle spasm as he experienced in Oliver.
Chris Willett coming to the realization that a solid Half Marathon requires more training than jogging to the corner store once a week.
Tim Cooper experiencing a full-body muscle cramp during his post-race meal.
It was not BPR's finest day of racing, but there were lots of lessons learned, great camaraderie, and lots of cheering and laughing to enjoy. Go to the forum to read some of the race reports.
